Donna Hannaby started her business just before the pandemic hit but rather than reverting back to working in a practice, she continued with her dream and over the past year and a half has built a successful practice with 35 clients, gained from word of mouth. She has built her practice around the cloud, encouraging clients to embrace technology. And all whilst retaining that precious work-life balance that drove her to create her business. We're excited to see what Donna and Accrual World can build over the coming years.

Our judges welcomed the people first mantra of the company that they adapted through the pandemic, putting mental health and the additional needs of their people first. The emotion came through in their nomination and showed their strong moral compass which has resulted in a high colleague retention rate and team motivation.

Winner: Tregonning and Co Ltd

Judged by our champions: Martin Tregonning at Tregonning and Co was well placed during the pandemic having already adapted his business to work in the cloud due to his remote location in Shetland. This meant that he was able to focus not just on supporting his clients but crucially bringing together the local community to provide them with direction and support. He created a weekly online coffee event for local businesses to bring some much needed human contact for those that needed it. He also helped to initate wellness chats with peers from other accounting practices, to ensure that they were looking after themselves as well as their staff. He also continued with his existing volunteer commitments with various different charities in the local area and has become an advocate for buying local to support his community further.

Winner: Anpario plc

Anpario went above and beyond duirng the pandemic. The positive way they approached the pandemic meant colleague morale remained high and they were able to cope with shortages that the pandemic created. However, the company also made a large impact in the community, making donations to local hospitals but crucially helped to source and donate key PPE to local care homes when resources were scarce, enabling those working there to feel safer in their roles.

• Emma-Jane Howell at HL & W Limited: The nomination from her team clearly showed what an integral part of the team Emma-Jane has become and the impact she has on all her colleagues. Her self motivation, support of others, dedication and exceptional drive to succeed shone through.
• George Moss at Bee Motion: George brings so much to the table, a true team player, great ideas, supporting new apprentices, not afraid of hard work and does whatever it takes. He clearly has a great understanding of clients needs and not forgetting a fabulous array of shirts.

The environmental considerations that the team have implemented go above and beyond expectations for a leisure company who have looked to make enviornmental considerations through so much of their business. From the way they heat their pools, through to generating their own electricity and using their own water sources on site. They also take this consideration into the suppliers they use, focusing on sourcing local and suppliers who are commited to reducing waste and plastic use. They are also working to plant more trees on site through partnerships with others. A great commitment to our future.

Catherine Pyman showcased great consistent communication to her clients throughout the pandemic, the impact it had on them and how much her clients love her. She has enabled her clients' businesses to stay alive through adaptation and a thorough understanding of the government support available.

Winner: Infinity Partnership

Infinity Partnership impressed with their detailed nomination. Not only were we impressed by the way they had motivated their team, they quickly created a Covid support hub which provided key up to date information to their clients. The team worked with industry bodies such as the ACCA to provide feedback which was used to feedback to the UK government and helped their clients to adapt their business model to survive and thrive. They also didn't forget about the community...raising money for a local hospital and cancer charity which are close to the team's hearts. To also drive growth during such a challenging time was truly exceptional.
